For the Gamers: 4TG Game Con Returns to Aberdeen

For the Gamers: 4TG Game Con 2017 kicking off in Aberdeen this weekend.

The North East of Scotland’s largest gaming convention is returning to Aberdeen this weekend for 4TG Game Con 2017.

Taking place on 29-30 July at the AECC Oil & Gas Arena, 4TG (4TheGamers), is bringing gaming enthusiasts, developers, and brands together under one roof for “20 hours of gaming heaven.”

4TG held their first event in Aberdeen last year, which attracted over 5000 visitors.

Alexa Scott, Director of the 4TG event said: “As the largest gaming event in the North-east of Scotland we are delighted to be in the AECC again this year.

“This event will be a yearly event in the calendar year for people of all ages and we are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Aberdeen’s largest conference venue.”

WHAT’S ON

This year’s event will offer a host of game-related activities including eSports tournaments, cosplay competitions, and the latest in VR (Virtual Reality) technology.

Fans will also get the opportunity to meet some of Scotland’s biggest names in YouTube and Twitch streaming, and watch a variety of panels hosted by Scotland’s game industry experts.

More highlights from the event include:

CAREER & EDUCATION ZONE

Turn you hobby into a career! Visitors can talk to a selection of Scotland’s best Universities and Colleges for games development and design, including; Robert Gordon University, Abertay University, and Dundee & Angus College.

CONTENT CREATION WORKSHOP

Fancy trying your hand at being the next biggest YouTube or Twitch star? Sign up for a content creation workshop for hints, tips, and advice on how to get started.

4TG game conCOSPLAY

4TG Game Con has partnered with Cos-Con to bring a host of cosplay activities, games, and competitions.

The 4TG cosplay schedule will climax with the Cosplay Championship, where the best costume will be decided by a panel of judges.

DEVELOPER PANEL

Industry experts will be presenting a panel and answering all of your burning questions on video games development.

Guests include:

  • Colin MacDonald, Commissioning Editor for Games at Channel 4, Head of All 4 Games, and Chairman of facial animation specialists Speech Graphics
  • Stewart Gilray, a developer with 29-years of experience
  • Russell Anderson, CEO & Founder of Kando Corp
  • Alan Yeats, Indie developer at Abertay University and team member of Pocket Sized Hands
  • Ronin Sandford, Co-founder of game engine developer Etherplay

ESPORTS4TG Game Con

For the more serious gamers, six different eSports tournaments will be taking place at the event, including ‘Counter Strike: Global Offensive’ (‘CS:GO’), ‘Call of Duty’, and ‘Overwatch’. The last 4TG event saw competitors battle it out for a shared prize of £2,600, and this year participants can win up to £1000.

EXHIBITIONS AND MERCHANDISE

Get your hands on some of the latest hardware and a wide selection of gaming merchandise. A wide range of local businesses will be on the main floor selling everything from custom-made jewellery to classic consoles.

INDIE ZONE

Check out and try some of the most exciting indie titles under development by Scottish studios! Pocket Sized Hands, Etherplay, Kando Corp, and more will all be available for visitors to play.

MEET & GREET

Ever wanted to meet your favourite Scottish YouTube and Twitch stars? Well now’s your chance! MarleyThirteen, CherryRsR, RossBoomsocks, Silentc0re, and The8thHawk will all be holding fan meet & greets.

VR ZONE

Step into the future of gaming with the 4TG dedicated VR Zone. Visitors will be given the chance to experience exciting new VR technology including Playstation VR, HTC Vive, and Razer’s OSVR.
